Urban Network for Innovation in Ceramics is (UNIC) - an URBACT program supported by the European Union - was setup in Limoges, France. Iznik Training and Education Foundation had the honor of being invited as a founding member.
With the support of EU's URBACT II program and under the leadership of eight ceramic manufacturers in European cities along with Germany's Porzellanikon museum (selber city) In 2008 in Limoges city, UNIC movement was established.
World-renowned manufacturer of ceramic and porcelain cities; Limoges, Sevres (France), Delft (Netherlands) Stoke-on-Trent (UK), Aveiro (Portugal), Seville (Spain), Castellon (Spain), Faenza (Italy), representing their respective countries jointly started the "EUROPEAN CERAMIC WAY" project.
The aim of the project is to bring together ceramic cultures within European Union countries, through commercial and tourism related networks. In this context, the Iznik Foundation nominated Istanbul, Bursa, Iznik - Kütahya - Canakkale and Avanos be included in the proposed "European Ceramic Road" to represent Turkey. Thus, the modern Silk Road trade and cultural links can reach deep into Anatolia. "Presentation Luxembourg" shown in below map includes Turkey.
As of 6 June 2012, the European Ceramic Road has been accepted by the European Unionas "Cultural Heritage".
