Havana Panels, Cuba

Following a special request received from the Turkish Embassy on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of Havana, two 100x500 cm tile panels were prepared to be installed in Old Havana.

The panels prepared for permanent display at “Parque de San Ignacio Lamparilla in Old Havana” were designed by Nasuh Hasan Çolpan. Their design highlights the common point of the two cities; the sea, applied in the panels' center point. Structures lending the city its visual identity were lined up around the water. Havana panel features the Plaza Vieja square and the statute of Christ, while Istanbul panel features Cerrah Mehmed Paşa Mosque and the new Çamlıca Tower as symbolic structures.
